Always backup all files when updating or upgrading to the latest wordpress update, installing a new wordpress theme, modifying themes and installing plugins. It’s also a good idea to backup files when doing a backup saving file.

Once in a while, something goes wrong and without doing a backup of all your files for wordpress, you’ll never recover them. Even when switching to a different SEO plugins and permalink changes, it’s also a good idea to backup all your files, just in case something goes wrong.
